By the early 1950s, the community had developed significant infrastructure, including the Union High Sch, Mem Hosp, and the County Fairgrounds. The Southern Pacific railroad cuts through the heart of town, while the Colusa Airport sits just to the south.

Extending west from the river, the terrain is shaped by a complex network of irrigation and drainage, featuring the Colusa Slough and Trough Irrigation Canal. This area is a haven for water-focused recreation and conservation, home to the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge and several private hunting grounds like the Commodore Gun Club and Northern Gun Club. At the rural intersection of Abel Road and Lone Star Road lies the small settlement of The Four Corners.
