The Swan River valley serves as the central artery for this remote portion of the Flathead National Forest, where the settlement of Condon sits at the foot of the high peaks. The landscape is defined by the sharp transition from the valley floor, where Smith Flats and the Condon USFS Airport provide essential infrastructure, to the steep drainages of the Swan Range. Numerous named creeks, including Glacier Cr and Rumble Cr, flow westward from the high ridges toward the river.
