About this map

Crowleys Ridge rises abruptly from the alluvial plains of eastern Arkansas in this 1950s landscape, providing a distinct topographical contrast to the surrounding bottomlands. The St Francis River and its massive St Francis Floodway dominate the central and eastern portions of the map, carving a path around Franks Island. Evidence of the region's dynamic hydrology is seen in the many oxbows and sloughs, including Old River, Long Lake, and Hidden Slough.
