Thunder Basin National Grassland dominates this section of the High Plains in Weston County, where a system of ephemeral watercourses and deep ravines defines the drainage patterns. These geographical features, often bearing the names of early cattlemen or surveying parties, include the namesake Darlington Draw in the northwest, along with Jones Draw and Field Draw further east. The landscape is characterized by its creek systems, most notably Wildcat Cr which winds through the central and southern sections, while Black Thunder Cr and Horse Cr converge in the southwest. A sparse road network, consisting of Cellers Loop Rd and Field Rd, provides access across the various public land townships and ranges that structure this western grazing territory.
