Little Missouri National Grassland dominates this portion of McKenzie County, where the high plains are carved by a network of drainage coulees and seasonal creeks. The terrain is defined by the erosion patterns of Greenieu Coulee and Jackson Coulee, which channel runoff toward the winding Clear Cr. In the southeastern corner, Demicks Lake provides a rare permanent water body in this semi-arid landscape.
