The Denali National Preserve extends its boundary into the eastern portion of this sub-arctic wilderness, where the Shisnona River and its associated Shisnona Lake dominate the central drainage basin. The landscape is defined by an intricate network of slow-moving water and wetlands, with the Fish River meandering through the southeastern corner and the Highpower Cr reaching into the northern reaches. This 2017 survey captures the interior of the Alaska wilderness at the border of the Denali Borough and the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area. The absence of roads or established settlements emphasizes the remote nature of this hydrologic system, providing a precise record of the winding courses of Lonestar Cr and Deep Cr before they join the larger regional flows.
