North Fork Kuskokwim River meanders across the northern portion of this interior Alaska landscape, defining a complex network of oxbows and wetlands. To the south, the terrain rises sharply toward Munsatli Ridge, which provides a dramatic contrast to the low-lying river valley. The southern half of the map is dominated by the steepening contours of this upland area, where Fish Cr and its various tributaries cut through the drainage basins. This 2017 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey documents the raw physical geography of the Yukon-Koyukuk region, illustrating the transition from saturated river bottoms to the higher elevations of the ridge systems that divide the local watersheds.
