1954 Map of Devils Head

About this map

Devils Head and its prominent Lookout Tower dominate the high ground of the Pike National Forest in this mid-century survey. The landscape is a network of canyon gulches and family ranch holdings, including the Round-Up Ranch, Bear Mountain Ranch, and B-B-L-B Ranch. A notable cultural imprint on the land is found near Gott Mountain, where the Brotherhood of the White Temple and Shamballah-Ashrama established themselves in the valleys between North Garber Creek and South Garber Creek. This era of the Front Range shows a mix of recreational and spiritual retreats, from the Silver State Youth Camp to the Rock Springs Campground, all connected by the Rampart Range Road and the Bergen Park Trail.
