Duncan Ridge and the surrounding high country of the Okanogan National Forest dominate this mountain landscape at the turn of the 21st century. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent divides, including Skull and Crossbones Ridge and Rabbit Ridge, which separate various branches of the Middle Fork Toats Coulee Creek and Chickadee Creek systems. Remnants of human activity in this remote area are preserved in labels for the Duncan James Cabin and the evocatively named Skull and Crossbones Cabin. Evidence of the region's agricultural and resource-based economy is visible at the Cecil Creek Loading Corral and scattered Prospects located near Finney Flat. This survey represents the transition between national and state lands, clearly delineating the boundaries of the Loomis State Forest across the southern half of the quadrangle.
