About this map

The international border between the United States and Mexico bisects this 1983 landscape, centered on the sprawling urban core of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez. The Rio Grande, also labeled as the Rio Bravo, serves as the primary geographic and political artery, feeding an extensive irrigation network that includes the Franklin Canal and Riverside Canal throughout the Mesilla Valley. To the north, the Franklin Mountains rise sharply above the city, while the eastern portion is dominated by the Fort Bliss Military Reservation and the Hueco Mountains.
