About this map

Emmons anchors the southwestern corner of this survey, situated right at the boundary where Freeborn County meets the Iowa border. The landscape is defined by a series of glacial lakes and an extensive network of drainage infrastructure, including Judicial Ditch Number Nine and County Ditch Number Forty, which serve to manage the water levels of the surrounding farmland. The area between Twin Lakes and the state line is dotted with several rural burial grounds that speak to the region's Scandinavian heritage and early settlement patterns, such as the Bear Lake Concordia Lutheran Cem and Lunder Lutheran Cem. Hydrological features like Upper Twin Lake, Lower Twin Lake, and State Line Lake dominate the central corridor, while smaller bodies like Everhart Lake and Church Lake are found further north. This agricultural layout is interconnected by a grid of county highways and township roads, including Co HWY 14 and Co HWY 9.
