The Continental Divide serves as the primary backbone of this high-elevation landscape, where five different management areas converge. This 1970 study documents the remote intersection of the Flathead National Forest, Lewis and Clark National Forest, and Lolo National Forest, alongside the Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Sun River Game Preserve. The hydrology of the region is defined by the headwaters of the Blackfoot River system, including its North Fork and Dry Fork, which drain away from the peaks of Flint Mtn and Evans Peak. At the northern edge, Triple Divide and Observation Point stand as major topographical anchors. Human presence is indicated strictly by the primitive transportation network, with the Cabin Creek Trail, Dobrota Trail, and several unnamed pack trails providing the only access through the mountains.
