Fremont sits as a vital rail and river hub in the late 1960s, defined by its position between the Elkhorn River and the Platte River. The city is a dense network of residential streets and civic institutions, including Midland College, the Courthouse, and numerous neighborhood schools like Clarmar Sch and Northside Sch. The influence of the railroads is clear, with the Chicago and North Western, Burlington and Quincy, and Union Pacific lines converging to serve local industries such as the large Chemical Plant north of town.

Outside the city center, the landscape transitions to the rural townships of Nickerson and Fontanelle. To the south, the village of Inglewood and the riverside development at Woodcliff show the spread of settlement toward the Pohocco terrain.
