The Uinta Mountains dominate this 1906 survey, providing a high-elevation view of the drainage basins that would later form part of the Ashley National Forest and Wasatch National Forest. The landscape is defined by its massive glacial features and jagged peaks, including the high summits of Kings Peaks, Gilbert Peak, and Mt Emmons. In the early twentieth century, this terrain was largely used for seasonal grazing and early water management, evidenced by the scattered outposts of Smiths Ranch and Edwards Ranch.
