The San Francisco River cuts through the eastern edge of this territory, providing the primary water source for the settlement at Glenwood. In the mid-1960s, this area of the Gila National Forest supported various operations, including the State Fish Hatchery and the Glenwood Ranger Station. The landscape is defined by an extensive network of named canyons and ridges, such as Heifers Delight Canyon, Booger Canyon, and the curiously named Come-alive Ridge.
