The low-lying wetlands of Clinch County define this region, where the scattered settlements of Headlight and Ernest sit among a complex network of bays and islands. The terrain is characterized by large cypress-filled depressions such as Stalvey Bay, McGarrity Bay, and Ives Bay, interspersed with dry rises known locally as islands, including Crews Island and Cart Island. This landscape dictated a sparse settlement pattern connected by a web of rural roads such as Hard Scramble Rd and Colon Rd.
