About this map

The mountain settlements of Pocahontas and surrounding counties appear here in a series of late-nineteenth-century surveys. At the center of the region lies Huntersville and the developing town of Marlinton, situated near the confluence of Knapp Creek and the Greenbrier River. The landscape is defined by the high ridges of Gauley Mountain and Slaty Ridge, which separate the headwaters of the Gauley River, Williams River, and Cranberry River.
