Hanson Grant and the surrounding marshlands define this Florida landscape during the early 1950s, a period of significant hydraulic engineering. The massive St Lucie Canal and the Okeechobee Waterway cut a straight path through the terrain, managed by the St Lucie Lock and Dam to the northeast. These artificial channels contrast sharply with the natural meandering of the South Fork St Lucie River and Roebuck Creek.

Evidence of dredging is prominent, with numerous Spoil Banks and a network of Levees protecting the emerging agricultural and drainage projects. Near the center, the small settlement of Arundel sits along the waterway near a Gaging Station. To the west, the wetland character remains dominant at Green Ridge and along the slow-moving Cane Slough, while sections of the road network are marked as being Under Construction, signaling the area's transition.
