Jim White Ridge and Young Ridge define the high terrain of this remote section of northeast Oregon, where the boundaries of the Wallowa National Forest and Whitman National Forest converge. The landscape is deeply carved by the Minam River and the Little Minam River, with significant landmarks such as Minam Falls and Big Burn indicating the dynamic natural history of the drainage basins. Transportation into this wilderness area is centered on the Reds Wallowa Horse Ranch Airport near the confluence of the Minam River and Chaparral Cr. This high-elevation topography includes numerous sub-basins like Lake Basin, Saddle Basin, and Corral Basin, which serve as the headwaters for a complex network of tributaries including Whoopee Cr and Jerry Cr. The map provides an essential record of the county line between Wallowa and Union counties as it traverses these peaks.
