Tongass National Forest encompasses this coastal Alaskan landscape, where the saltwater of the Pacific Ocean reaches deep into the shoreline through the Boca De Quadra inlet. The topography is defined by the steep transition from the sea to the interior heights, a region largely untouched by development save for the Quartz Hill Access road in the northern reaches. This corridor provides a rare terrestrial entry point into the dense forest terrain above Wilson Arm. Further south, the drainage of Bakewell Lake feeds into the Bakewell Arm, illustrating the intricate hydrologic network of coastal fjords and freshwater basins that characterize this part of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough.
