The waters of Lake Sakakawea dominate the southern portion of this landscape at the boundary of Williams Co and McKenzie Co. The terrain is defined by a series of drainages, including Willow Cr, Cedar Cr, and Plum Cr, which carve through the land as they move toward the Missouri River reservoir. Evidence of rural community life and genealogy is preserved at the Hauge Cem, located north of Lake Jessie. The map shows a precise grid of rural routes such as 127th Ave NW and 48th St NW that navigate the high ground between the coulees and the shoreline.
