Centennial Valley and the steep eastern slopes of the Medicine Bow Mountains define this section of the Medicine Bow National Forest. The landscape is a transition between the wide high-altitude basin and the rising peaks, characterized by a complex network of drainage and irrigation. Notable water features include Lake Owen and the Sundby Reservoir Number 2, which support the region's ranching and watershed needs. The intricate braiding of the Middle Fork Little Laramie River and the S Fork Little Laramie River illustrates the hydrology of the eastern Laramie Range foothills. High-elevation landmarks such as Sheep Mtn and Iron Mtn overlook a terrain marked by numerous gulches and small creeks, including Chokecherry Gulch and Moonshine Gulch, reflecting the rugged character of this Albany County wilderness.
