Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area dominates this landscape along the border of Carbon and Big Horn Counties, where the deep waters of Bighorn Lake fill the dramatic Bighorn Canyon. The terrain is defined by a series of steep drainages and prominent divides, including Little Bull Elk Canyon and Big Bull Elk Canyon, which separate the expansive Little Bull Elk Ridge from Big Bull Elk Ridge. On the eastern plateau, The Buffalo Pasture provides a stark contrast to the deeply eroded coulees.
