Van Horn Mountains dominate the western half of this Trans-Pecos landscape, rising sharply from the floor of Lobo Valley. The high ground is defined by prominent landmarks such as High Lonesome Peak and the deep incisions of China Canyon and Hammer Handle Canyon. These drainage patterns demonstrate the arid hydrology of West Texas, where seasonal runoff flows toward Wild Horse Cr and into the broad Wild Horse Draw.
