About this map

The West Ropes Oil Field dominates the eastern portion of this West Texas landscape, showing the intensive energy infrastructure established by the mid-1960s. Small agricultural and resource-based settlements like Lockettville and Clauene anchor the local road network, while the presence of a Cotton Gin near the center of the sheet highlights the dual economy of petroleum and cotton farming common to the Llano Estacado. The terrain is marked by numerous depressions and catchments, dotted with frequent Wells and an extensive Pipeline system cutting across the southern plains. Along the southern border, the boundary between Hockley Co and Terry Co is clearly delineated, passing just south of the County Auxiliary Airfield. This survey records a moment when rural industry was deeply integrated into the grid-patterned sections of the High Plains.
