Flathead National Forest land defines the interior of this quadrangle, where the steep topography of the Rocky Mountains creates a complex network of high-elevation drainages. High points such as Marmot Mtn and Snow Peak overlook deep valleys where water moves through Chasm Cr and Snow Cr toward the South Fork Flathead River in the northeast corner. This environment is punctuated by isolated water bodies like Recluse Lake and Picture Lake, the latter situated near the prominence of Picture Ridge.
