Canadian River meanders through the northern section of this borderland landscape, where the high plains of Eastern New Mexico meet the Texas panhandle. The topography is defined by significant breaks and crossings, most notably Stagecoach Gap and Texas Gap, which historically served as natural passage points through the elevated terrain. These gaps, along with Rana Canyon, suggest a long history of travel and transit between Quay County and Oldham County.
