The topography is defined by a dense network of drainage, where Slough Cr and Prairie Cr flow toward the west while Fall Cr and its S Fork Fall Cr move through the northern sections. This rural layout, largely dictated by the section lines of the Public Land Survey System, shows a transition from the structured streets of the village to the meandering paths of Ninemile Cr and Tonganoxie Cr in the south, terminating near the shores of State Lake.
