About this map

The Nixon Fork winds through this interior Alaskan landscape, shaping a complex network of wetlands and oxbows within the Yukon-Koyukuk region. The northern half of the sheet is dominated by this meandering river system and its various tributaries, including Little Wabash Cr and Hidden Cr. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, the terrain shifts significantly as the flat river basin gives way to the elevations of the Lonesome Hills, where the drainage patterns of Wabash Cr and Clear Cr define the local topography. This contrast between the low-lying fluvial plain and the rising hills illustrates the transition between the basin floors and the upland interior, providing a clear view of the natural hydrology in an area defined by its watercourses.
