Chillicothe serves as the primary municipal anchor in the northeast corner of this West Texas landscape, where the flat agricultural plains of Hardeman County begin to give way to distinctive topographic rises. The area is defined by the Medicine Mounds, a series of four prominent elevations—Cedar Mound, Medicine Mound, Third Mound, and Little Mound—that stand in sharp contrast to the surrounding fields. These landforms were historically significant landmarks for Indigenous peoples and later settlers, overlooking the seasonal flow of Wanderers Cr and the broad expanse of Big Valley.
