Chillicothe occupies the northeastern corner of this Hardeman County landscape, where the grid of city streets like Ave H and S 11th St transitions into the wide agricultural expanses of North Texas. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent rises known collectively as the Medicine Mounds, including individual landmarks such as Cedar Mound, Third Mound, Little Mound, and the singular Medicine Mound. These elevations provided significant vantage points over the surrounding plains long before the current road network was established.
