The Moosic Mountains anchor the northwestern portion of this landscape, defining the rugged geography of Lackawanna County as it appeared following the mid-century. The Conrail line cuts a diagonal path through the terrain, connecting the borough of Moscow with Elmhurst and the larger industrial center of Scranton beyond the western boundary. This transportation corridor shaped the growth of numerous rural crossroads such as Tooley Corners and Quinlan Corners.
