The eastern slopes of the Manzanita Mountains and Manzano Mountains define this section of New Mexico, where the high desert terrain meets protected federal lands. Much of the northern half is occupied by the restricted grounds of Kirtland Afb, featuring specialized infrastructure like Mortar Range Rd Se. The landscape is deeply incised by drainages such as Hells Canyon Wash and Arroyo del Coyote, which originate near prominent high points like Mt Washington and Sol se Mete Peak. Within the Cibola National Forest, the map identifies critical water sources in an otherwise arid environment, including Coyote Springs and Sol se Mete Spring. This 2020 survey also tracks the transition from Bernalillo to Valencia County across a network of service routes like Indian Svc Rte 60 and Tribal Rd 601.
