About this map

The northern edge of this aerial study is dominated by the southern outskirts of Mountain Grove, where the grid-like residential blocks and commercial lots give way to the segmented agriculture of Douglas County. Prepared in cooperation with the Soil Conservation Service, this orthophotograph provides a clear view of the rural landscape in the late 1970s. The terrain transitions from the developed cluster of Mountain Grove into a mosaic of fenced pastures, wooded ridges, and farmstead clearings. Because this is an advance print of an orthophotoquad, it offers a direct visual record of land use and timber patterns that traditional line-and-symbol topographic maps often generalize, showing the specific arrangement of woodlots and ponds across the Missouri countryside.
