1956 Map of Nahant

USGS Topo · Published 1978

About this map

The Chicago Burlington and Quincy railroad line snakes through this high-altitude landscape, following the course of the North Fork Rapid Creek. This 1950s survey captures a transition in the Black Hills National Forest, where industrial activity was yielding to a ranching economy. The settlement of Dumont appears alongside its Dumont Sch (Abandoned), while farther south, Nahant is marked by the Nahant Sch. Numerous family holdings are documented across the terrain, including the Buskala Ranch, Gudat Ranch, and Melcher Ranch.
