Northward, the Louisville and Nashville railroad tracks cut through the panhandle near Deerland and Mossy Head. The terrain is characterized by a dense network of creek heads and branches, such as Alagua Creek and Wildcat Creek, which carve through the sandy uplands. Local family history and early settlement markers are preserved through features like Brown Cem, the Ramer Lookout Tower, and a lone Schoolhouse tucked away near the Okaloosa and Walton County line.
