The Black River winds through the heart of this Herkimer and Oneida County borderland, defining a landscape of high ridges and significant water bodies. In the southern portion of the sheet, the small settlement of Wheelertown serves as a primary point of reference, featuring the Wheelertown Cem along Wheelertown Rd. To the north, the isolated community of North Wilmurt is positioned near the headwaters of the Muskrat Brook and Twin Lakes Stream.

The terrain is marked by prominent elevations such as Stone Dam Mtn and Ash Ridge, which rise above a complex network of wetlands and ponds including Quagmire Swamp, Maple Lake, and Stone Dam Lake.
