The county line between Lake of the Woods Co and Beltrami Co forms the central landmark of this northern Minnesota landscape. This 2013 survey depicts a sparsely developed region characterized by a high water table and a network of drainage channels. The topographic contours reveal a very gradual transition in elevation, typical of the peatlands and low-lying woods found south of the Canadian border. Minimal infrastructure exists here, with only occasional service roads and 4WD tracks providing access through the terrain. The lack of named settlements or civic structures highlights the transitional nature of this territory, where the focus remains on the geographical boundary between two of the state's northernmost counties.
