About this map

Ridgeville and Onarga anchor this mid-1980s landscape at the boundary of Ford and Iroquois counties. The area is characterized by its organized township structure, including Ridgeland, Onarga, and Artesia, which define the agricultural grid of east-central Illinois. Industrial transport is dominated by the Illinois Central Gulf railroad, which runs north-south through the village of Delrey. The drainage of these flat prairie lands is visible through the meandering paths of Prairie Creek and Spring Creek, which cut across the surveyed section lines. Small markers of local history, such as a rural Cem, suggest the locations of early pioneer burials and community gathering points. Towards the southwestern edge, the village of Thawville marks the rail corridor as it moves toward the neighboring county line.
