About this map

The Big Muddy River winds along the southern edge of this Jackson County landscape, where the confluence of riparian lowlands and the Shawnee National Forest creates a diverse topography. At the time of this 1968 survey, the area was undergoing a significant hydrological transformation with the Crisenberry Dam (Under Constr) indicated on Kinkaid Creek. This project was actively reshaping the valley to form Kinkaid Lake, a feature that would soon alter the local geography forever.
