The small settlement of Oxford serves as the central landmark for this portion of the Texas Hill Country, situated where local roads converge in a landscape defined by dramatic granite and limestone elevations. The topography is anchored by numerous peaks including Bowie Mtn, Lone Mtn, and the curiously named Fool Mtn near Fool Gap. These summits separate a complex network of seasonal drainages, most notably Sandy Cr and its various tributaries like Willow Br and Crump Cr.
