Targhee National Forest dominates this mid-1960s survey of the high backcountry along the Idaho-Wyoming border. The landscape is defined by the sharp elevations of the Snake River Range, including the prominent Palisades Peak and the nearby Little Palisades Peak. A complex network of drainage basins is mapped here, with Palisades Creek and its North and East Forks carving through the high country toward the west.

Deep in the interior, several Pack Trail routes provide the only access to landmarks such as the Ice Cave and the secluded Upper Palisades Lake. The survey also documents numerous steep-walled corridors like Dead Man Canyon and Corral Canyon, while crossing the county line between Bonneville and Teton counties. This area remained primarily roadless during this era, serving as a vital watershed and wilderness refuge.
