Palmer and its surrounding Ellis County corridor are defined by the convergence of Interstate 45 and a complex network of prairie waterways. This 2016 survey illustrates the modern layout of several small communities, including Red Oak, Trumbull, Boyce, and Garrett, which historically served as agricultural hubs. The landscape is deeply etched by the drainage systems of Red Oak Cr and Grove Cr, where the topography drops away from the upland fields into riparian breaks. Genealogy and local history researchers will find several well-preserved family and municipal burial grounds, such as Prude Hyde Cem and Lucille Cem, which remain as markers of the area's early settlement. The presence of the Dallas South Port Airport and the Griffith Reservoir reflects the ongoing development of infrastructure in this region south of Dallas.
