The Everglades Wildlife Management Area No. 3 dominates the western half of this Florida landscape, defined by vast stretches of water impounded for conservation and flood control. Along the diagonal course of the Miami Canal, a network of infrastructure including a Gaging Sta, several Control Gate locations, and a Boat Ramp illustrates the intensive water management efforts of the era.

To the east, the encroaching suburban boundaries of Pembroke Pines and Miramar meet the wilder terrain of the conservation area at the Broward Co and Dade Co line. Transportation and utility features are prominent, from the Opa-Locka West Airport and the West Expressway (Toll) to the industrial Quarry near the settlement of Pennsuco. The map reveals a transitional zone where the marshlands of the Everglades are increasingly shaped by human development and drainage via the Snake Creek Canal and Pennsuco Canal.
