Strawberry Mountain Wilderness dominates this portion of the Malheur National Forest, where steep ridgelines like Bear Skull Rims and Yellow Jacket Ridge define the drainage of the Strawberry Range. This late-twentieth-century survey documents a landscape defined by its mining history and remote forest camps. Mining activity is clustered in the northern reaches, notably at Dry Camp Mine, Chambers Mine, and Ray Mine, while scattered prospects mark the high slopes of Baldy Mountain.

Numerous designated camps such as Hotel De Burr Camp, Bingham Camp, and Tamarack Camp are linked by a network of trails and primitive 4WD routes.
