Pisgah and the surrounding Loess Hills of Harrison and Monona counties are defined by the winding course of the Soldier River and its numerous tributaries. This agricultural landscape in western Iowa is surveyed at a point when the rural grid remains largely intact, punctuated by historic burial grounds like Soldier Valley Cem and Fountainbleau Cem. The terrain is deeply carved, with drainage systems like Cobb Cr and Steer Cr cutting through the bluffs east of the Little Sioux River floodplain.

Evidence of the area's development is found in the network of secondary roads and trails, such as Co Rd F20 and Ia 183, which connect the settlement of Orson to the larger community at Pisgah. The topography here illustrates the transition from the river bottomlands to the upland ridges, where many of the county lines and township boundaries, such as t81n r44w, were established following the natural contours of the land.
