About this map

The East Poplar Oil Field dominates this northeastern Montana landscape, situated within the boundaries of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. In the early 1970s, the terrain was defined by the industrial footprint of fossil fuel extraction, with numerous sites marked Oil Well and at least one Gas Well scattered across the high plains. The Poplar River winds through the western edge of the area, providing a natural contrast to the grid-like organization of the energy infrastructure and the prominent Pipeline that cuts through the southern sections.
