Slippery Rock Creek carves a deep valley through the heart of this landscape, its waters powering the industrial heritage of the region at Mcconnells Mill and Kennedy Mill. This survey, originally conducted in 1961 with 1979 revisions, documents a transition in land use as the massive reservoir of Lake Arthur emerges on the eastern edge. While the Mcconnells Mill State Park protects the natural gorge, much of the surrounding plateau is defined by extensive extraction, with numerous Strip Mine and Strip Mines operations visible across Slippery Rock and Muddy Creek townships.
