About this map

The Raquette River flows north toward the St. Lawrence, powering the industrial development of early 20th-century Potsdam and Hannawa Falls. This 1905–1906 survey captures the transition from settled agricultural valleys to the more sparsely populated Adirondack foothills. The northern half of the sheet shows a dense network of country schools, such as Old Forge School and Hayes School, supporting farming hamlets like West Stockholm and Sanfordville.
