The Schuylkill River forms a sharp boundary between the industrial and residential core of Pottstown and the rural hills of Chester County. In the mid-1950s, the area south of the river remained largely agricultural, dotted with long-established crossroads like Titlows Corner and Schades Corner. The landscape is defined by the winding course of French Creek, which cuts through the southern half of the quadrangle past historic hamlets such as Coventryville and Pughtown.
